True Church Conference 2010 session 2 evening

Friday night we had the pleasure of sitting under the preaching of Conrad Mbewe.

Conrad preaced on "loving sinners" from Luke 19:41-44. Conrad beautifully showed us through the scriptures how the doctrines of grace rightly preached DO NOT negate the responsibility of intelligent creatures to respond in repentance and faith. Moreover, a true understanding of the heart and the love of God ought to fuel our evangelism efforts. Jesus wept over Jerusalem because they were ignorant of the Christ. In their ignorance they would crucify the Lord of Glory ... And He knew this. Yet our Lord still wept with compassion for these souls that were perishing. Conrad posed the question "is Hell real?"; "Do you believe the bible?", he asked. Having shown us the great compassion of our savior, brother Conrad then asked us to briefly turn over to Romans 9 & 10 to see the heart of Christ displayed in the Apostle Paul's love for his kinsmen. Even entering into arguably two of the deepest theological chapters in all of scripture, the Apostle displays an anguish for the souls of men, longing for them to come to the knowledge of the truth. True Christians understand the deep theological truths of the word and allow their theology to dictate their methodology. A right understanding fosters prayer and evagelistic action that endeavors to preach the gospel to all men. Hyper-Calvinism drains men of their evangelistic zeal by promoting a false view of the sovereignty of God and the responsibility of intelligent creatures. Preach to all men knowing that God will save some!

True Church Conference Session 2

Saturday at the True Church Conference started with the warning to not focus on the errors in the church that we hate and wish to come out of; but rather to return the focus of the church back to the truth of the word.

Church history has shown "overcompensation" when dealing with error in the church. Luther expressed the reality of the danger by saying "church history is like a drunk on a horse".
Dr. Michael Haykin gave us a look at church history concerning the origin of "hyper-Calvinism" with a specific focus on John Gill and his contributions both positive and negative.
Jonathan Sims (Jono) preached second on "urging all to repent & believe" from Acts 17:30. He drove home the points that we urge all to repent & believe because:
1. All men are ignorant.
2. God Himself commands all men to repent.
3. All men will one day face the judgment of God.
4. Some will repent and believe.
5. This IS our calling!

At the third session Pastor Jeff Noblit covered the "use of altar calls". Brother Jeff distinguished "old time religion" from a "new fad", then covered the consequences of altar calls, and finally showed us "what sayeth the scriptures" concerning altar calls. We found out they just aren't in there!
More to come tonight and tomorrow ... God bless.
